Carmen
Origin and history
Bred in Italy by crossing two ancient varieties (Guyot and June’s beauty), its distribution began rather recently. Perfectly compact and sweet, tasty and juicy, it is perfect for refreshing under the summer sun.
Fruit’s shape and size
Carmen’s are small – medium sized with elongated shape. The stalk is short and stocky.
Characteristics of ripeness of the skin, flavour and texture
The skin is smooth, free of significant russeting and with pale green background color when the fruit is ready for harvesting. Many Carmen have a very attractive red blush extended to 10-50% of the whole surface. The skin tends to turn from green to light yellow in relation to the level of fruit ripening. As the skin color changes as described above, the flesh medium fine, juicy and aromatic develops a very good taste.
Distinguishing features
Thanks to its distinctive organoleptic characteristics, Carmen is regarded by many experts as the best summer pear.
